"True resilience isn't just a mindset - it's a physiological mechanism."

AUTHOR STATEMENT
I know firsthand how overwhelming life can feel when your nervous system is working against you. Early in my career, I had to learn to regulate my own nervous system to reclaim function in my daily life. Experiencing that shift from the inside out completely transformed my clinical approach—revealing that real healing isn't about fighting your body, but learning to speak its physiological language in real time.
Drawing on over 20 years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist specializing in Parkinson’s disease, doctoral training, and somatic expertise, I created The Internal State Method. It is a science-backed framework engineered to help you decode your internal state, build resilience, and work with your nervous system rather than against it.
My commitment to this work is both professional and personal: after I had already spent over a decade specializing in Parkinson's, two of my own family members were diagnosed, giving me an even deeper personal dedication to this community. I can't wait to share this work with you—and help you discover what becomes possible when you learn to navigate your physiology with confidence.
Jordan Staenberg, OTD, OTR/L, C-IAYT, is an occupational therapist, certified yoga therapist, clinical educator, author, and specialist with over 20 years of clinical experience in neurorehabilitation and integrative movement therapies. She currently serves as the Community Education and Outreach Manager for the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Chapters of the Parkinson’s Foundation and is the founder of Mindful Occupational Therapy, LLC. Across her two decades in the field, Dr. Staenberg served as an occupational therapist and clinical program developer at Barrow Neurological Institute and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, where she pioneered hospital-wide integrative therapy and therapeutic yoga programs for complex neurological conditions.
Her dedication to movement disorders is both professional and personal: ten years into her clinical specialization, two family members were diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Grounded in her doctoral training at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine and informed by the lived reality of families navigating the disease, Dr. Staenberg developed the Internal State Method and the BUILD framework to bridge neuroscience with agency-driven self-regulation. She is an invited speaker and committee member for the World Parkinson’s Congress, an academic mentor, and author of the forthcoming book The Internal State Method: A Science-Backed System to Reclaim Agency and BUILD Resilience in Parkinson’s Disease.
